Ask NPR to Ensure It's Not Used for Pentagon Propaganda

After revelations that the Pentagon was using retired military officers to disseminate propaganda through the news media, Just Foreign Policy supporters sent over 3,000 letters to the New York Times, asking them to investigate and disclose potential conflicts of interest of any retired generals they cite or publish.

We then extended this effort and asked National Public Radio (NPR) to uphold the same standards of investigation and disclosure we have asked of the New York Times. The NPR Ombudsman, Alicia C. Shepard has written a column in which she recognizes that NPR failed to properly investigate guests' potential conflicts of interest and to disclose those potential conflicts to listeners. She revealed that NPR News has instructed its reporters and editors to investigate and disclose conflicts of interest from now on. (You can read the Ombudsman's full column on this issue here.)

Please send a message to NPR's Ombudsman, thanking NPR for taking this seriously and asking her to monitor faithfulness to the new standards, by following this link to their Web submission form. Here is sample text you could cut and paste into your letter.
