Call your Senators Regarding Three Key Amendments to the 2012 NDAA; Report Back Here
Calling your Senators is easy—just follow these simple instructions:
1. Call the Capitol switchboard using this toll-free number provided by FCNL: 1-877-429-0678
2. Ask the switchboard operator to connect you to one of your Senator's offices. If you need to look up your Senators, go to www.senate.gov.
3. When you reach your Senator's office, tell them your name and address, and then ask them to:
Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR)
Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY)
Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT)
Sen. Tom Udall (D-NM)
Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH)
Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY)
Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL)
Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA)
Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV)
Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI)
Sen. Max Baucus (D-MT)
Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-WV)
Sen. Bernard Sanders (D-VT)
Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT)
b. Support the Paul amendment to the NDAA (No. 1064), which would repeal the Authorization for the Use of Military Force in Iraq, officially ending the war in that country. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) is currently a co-sponsor; [Update 11/30: the Paul amendment was defeated 30-67. Check how your Senators voted.]
c. Oppose the Kirk-Menendez amendment to the NDAA (No. 1414), which aims to collapse the Central Bank of Iran, a provision that could have dangerous consequences for the US economy as well as US-Iran relations. Sens. Manchin (D-WV), Blunt (R-MO), Tester (D-MT) are currently co-sponsors. [Update 11/29: Previously, both Kirk and Menendez had introduced amendments to this effect, but have since withdrawn them in favor of a joint effort.]
4. After you've made your call, report the results below.

1.) I got Senate Brown's office and left your recommended actions with his aid; he took them down and will pass them on.
2.) Every time I call Sen/ Kerry's office I get voice mail. So I left the msg as suggested on voice mail.
Barbara
stop the sanction and war
Levin's office: left voicemail
Stabenow's office: voicebox full.
Will try during office hours.
Left message at Boxer's office, spoke to aide at Feinstein's office.
Previously left a longer message here, but it was erased.
I HATE Captcha!
Spoke with real people in both Senator Snowe and Collins' offices and left messages.
Left the messages with Senators, Casey & Toomey.
I called Sen. Durbin's office and spoke to a staffer. I thanked him for co-sponsoring the Merkley Amendment to the NDAA, and urged him to support the Udall and Paul amendments for the reasons given, and urged him to oppose the Kirk amendment (my other senator). He always gets back to me, usually via e-mail. I called Sen. Kirk's office, and as usual, all I got was a recorded message. I always leave my name, address, phone number and e-mail, and of course he never, ever gets back to me, even though the message says he will. I told him I was deeply disappointed in his sponsorhip ofthe amendment re the economic sanctions against Iraq, and urged him to support the Udall, Merkley and Paul amendments for reasons given.
Left voice mail for Senator Carl Levin and Senator Debbie Stabenow.
Had to leave message with Senator Murray, but was explicit!
Talked to person at Senator Cantwell's office, she never comments on her position, as he was just a friendly young message taker, couldn't pump him.
I called Senator Merkley's aid and made the recommendations, as suggested by Just Foreign Policy's alert; also thanked the Senator for sponsoring Afganistan amendment.
I talked to someone in the offices of both Senators Mary Landrieu and David Vitter of Louisiana. They both listened to my requests to support the Merkley and Paul amendments and oppose the Kirk amendment and promised to pass my request to the senators.
I also asked that they support the Udall amendment in the Defense Authorization Bill the purpose of which is to strip out the provision that would allow US military to capture civilians anywhere in the world including US citizens in the US and hold them indefinitely without charges or trial. This is totally outrageous and surely unconstitutional!
